oidc-provider review
A configurable Node.js authorization server library for standards-focused teams.

oidc-provider is a free, open-source Node.js library for building OAuth 2.0 authorization servers and OpenID Connect providers. It is aimed at developers and teams that need a configurable server they can self-host, operate, and extend within their own applications. The implementation covers OpenID Connect Core and Discovery, OAuth 2.0 authorization flows, dynamic client registration and management, token introspection, and both opaque and JWT access-token formats.
Its strongest fit is standards-focused application development. oidc-provider includes PKCE, Device Authorization Grant, Client Credentials Grant, DPoP, mutual TLS, and FAPI 1.0 and FAPI 2.0 profiles. That gives teams support for browser, device, machine-to-machine, and higher-assurance authorization scenarios in one Node.js library. It can be mounted in Express, Fastify, Hapi, and Koa applications, with Redis and MongoDB listed among its integration options. These platform choices suit teams already building on the Node.js ecosystem and wanting control over deployment and configuration.
The trade-off is scope and operational responsibility. oidc-provider is a focused server library rather than a broad administrative IAM platform, so teams must handle its integration, configuration, operation, and extension themselves. Its features are configurable, and not all are enabled by default, which makes implementation decisions part of the deployment work. Choose it when your team wants an open-source, self-hosted authorization server with broad OAuth and OpenID Connect protocol coverage. Consider another option if you need a ready-made administrative IAM platform instead of a library designed to be embedded in a Node.js application.
