Our verdict on OffShoot
OffShoot is desktop and mobile software for filmmakers, photographers, and other creative professionals who need to copy, verify, organize, and document media. It handles camera cards and files across internal storage, external drives, cloud destinations, and other storage systems. The workflow is centered on professional media offload and ingest rather than automatic synchronization of a consumer photo library, making it a better fit for production teams and independent creators managing valuable source media.
The published plans show three paid options. Got A Project? costs $49 per 30 days and provides rental access for a specific project or fixed period. The OffShoot plan costs $169 per activation and adds source and destination verification, checksums, stop and resume, incremental backups, advanced duplicate detection, and presets. OffShoot Pro costs $249 per activation and adds Ingest Browser, S3 destinations, ASC MHL, Codex copy engines, iconik integration, and API and scripting. A 10-day free trial is available, and the bring-your-own-storage model supports external drive and NAS backup.
Its standout strength is documented transfer integrity. OffShoot can make simultaneous backups to multiple destinations, create cascading copies across drives or cloud destinations, apply metadata presets and filtering, and produce transfer logs, Media Hash Lists, and reports. Integrations include AWS S3, iconik, Frame.io, EditReady, FoolCat, OWC, ProGrade, ParaShoot, and Scratch. Professional photographers and filmmakers who need verified, repeatable offloads should find the feature depth aligned with their workflow. Consumers seeking automatic backup of an existing mobile photo library, or a simpler photo-sync service, should choose a different type of product.
