Ocean Market review
A token-based open data marketplace with Compute-to-Data and provenance.

Ocean Market is a web-based, decentralized data marketplace built on the Ocean Protocol. It is designed for data providers, consumers, developers, data scientists, researchers and organizations that need to publish, discover, purchase and consume data assets. Providers can publish datasets and algorithm assets, while buyers browse and search listings, use datatokens for access, and download consumed datasets. The platform is available through the web and as open-source software for self-hosted use.
Its strongest differentiator is the combination of token-based access control, provenance and Compute-to-Data. Compute-to-Data supports approved algorithms running against protected datasets without giving consumers the raw data. Blockchain records publishing, purchasing and consumption activity, creating a traceable record of marketplace interactions. This makes Ocean Market a focused fit for tokenized data exchange and workflows where protected-data access matters. Fixed-price and free asset pricing options give providers two published ways to structure access, while the commercial model is based on transaction fees.
Ocean Market is less suited to organizations seeking a private marketplace or a conventional SaaS data catalog. Private marketplaces are explicitly unsupported, and fine-grained marketplace permissions documented for forks are not enabled in the public Ocean Market deployment. Its positioning as a reference marketplace and technology demonstrator also makes its scope narrower than a broad enterprise marketplace suite. Choose it when open-source deployment, datatokens, blockchain-recorded provenance and Compute-to-Data align with the operating model. Choose an alternative when private marketplace controls or more granular permissions are central requirements.
