Our verdict on ObsIdentify
ObsIdentify is a free mobile app for identifying wild animals, plants and mushrooms from photos in Europe and the Dutch Caribbean. It is aimed at people who want to explore nature, record sightings and learn about species, rather than identify pets or household plants. Available for iOS and Android, the app combines photo identification with observation records, species information and community activities. Its recognition draws on observations contributed to Waarneming.nl, Waarnemingen.be and Observation.org; users’ own observations can contribute to biological research and nature knowledge.
The app’s breadth is its defining strength: one tool covers animals, plants and mushrooms, with species screens and tips for finding species adding context beyond a photo result. Users can collect, filter and delete observations, share them with groups, and take part in challenges or earn badges. That makes ObsIdentify a better fit for ongoing nature watching than a one-off identification utility.
