Nutanix Disaster Recovery is an enterprise business-continuity and disaster-recovery solution integrated with Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure. It is intended for organizations protecting virtualized workloads across hybrid multicloud environments. A unified management plane coordinates protection and recovery plans, while automated recovery orchestration handles failover and failback workflows. Deployment options include cloud and self-hosted models, with support for on-premises, public-cloud and managed-service environments.

Nutanix places Disaster Recovery within Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure licensing and directs buyers to an account manager for pricing. The platform fits organizations already standardizing on Nutanix, while its hybrid deployment model supports combinations of on-premises and cloud infrastructure. Cross-hypervisor disaster recovery works between ESXi and AHV, and multicloud snapshot distribution and restoration extend protection across cloud locations. Replication modes include synchronous, near-synchronous and asynchronous options, with stated recovery-point objective choices ranging from zero minutes to 24 hours.

The standout capability is coordinated recovery testing and execution. Granular, non-disruptive test failovers let teams validate plans without interrupting production, while runbook automation and a runbook editor support repeatable operational procedures. Automated failover, failback support and ransomware recovery coverage add to the continuity workflow. Nutanix enterprises with predominantly virtual workloads should consider it when centralized orchestration and detailed testing are priorities. Organizations needing broad physical, container or application-specific coverage, or a public price list, should evaluate alternatives that address those requirements.

Nutanix Disaster Recovery pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Automates unified protection, recovery, failover and failback plans
    • Supports synchronous, near-synchronous and asynchronous replication
    • Enables non-disruptive testing and cross-hypervisor DR between ESXi and AHV
  • Where it doesn't
    • Designed for virtual workloads rather than broad application estates
    • Cross-hypervisor support is limited to ESXi and AHV
    • Pricing requires contacting Nutanix or an account manager
