NexentaStor review
A unified NAS and SAN platform for enterprise storage operations.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
NexentaStor is software-defined storage for enterprise environments that need unified file and block services. It provides NFS and SMB file storage alongside Fibre Channel and iSCSI block storage, with deployment options for bare-metal hardware or virtual storage appliances. This makes it suited to organizations managing private-cloud, hyper-converged, or enterprise application environments that want one platform for provisioning, monitoring, replication, and operational visibility.
The pricing model is contact-sales, and there is no permanent free plan. NexentaStor does offer a 45-day trial, giving teams a defined period to evaluate the platform before purchasing. Its deployment model is on premises, with Linux, API, and self-hosted platform support. The ecosystem includes VMware vCenter, VMware VVOLs, OpenStack, and NexentaFusion. A VMware vCenter plug-in and VVOL support are particularly relevant for teams operating virtualized storage environments, while the REST API supports orchestration and integration work.
Storage operations are a central strength. NexentaStor covers storage provisioning, incremental datastore scaling, capacity utilization monitoring, storage analytics, performance bottleneck identification, snapshots, clones, and local, remote, and continuous asynchronous replication. NexentaFusion adds graphical management and operational visibility. The platform is a strong fit for teams that need both NAS and SAN protocols, appliance flexibility, and multiple replication options in one environment. Organizations seeking a lightweight hosted storage tool, transparent self-service pricing, or a permanent free tier should look elsewhere.
