NetKeep review
A self-hosted choice for teams that want Git history, diffs, inventory, and scheduled backups.

NetKeep is a self-hosted web application for internet service providers and infrastructure teams that need to collect, protect, and review network-device configurations. It uses Oxidized for read-only collection, stores permanent Git-based history, and combines configuration backup with inventory, search, downloads, scheduling, notifications, and access controls. Its on-premises deployment model suits teams that want to operate the application on their own Linux server rather than use a hosted service.
Configuration history is the central strength. NetKeep provides unified and side-by-side diffs, allowing teams to inspect changes over time in a Git-backed record. Collection can run on a schedule through a persistent job queue, while encrypted credential profiles support per-device overrides. Inventory covers devices, sites, groups, tags, vendors, and models, and synchronization with LibreNMS and NetBox can help align configuration work with existing network inventories. Email, signed webhooks, and Telegram notifications provide several ways to receive job and change-related updates.
The product also adds encrypted local or S3-compatible backups, private Git mirror support, and role-based access with optional TOTP two-factor authentication and passkeys. Deployment uses Docker Compose on Linux, so teams should be prepared to manage a self-hosted application and its storage. NetKeep is a strong fit for open-source infrastructure teams that value durable configuration history, scheduled collection, and network inventory synchronization. Teams seeking a hosted service, write-enabled device changes, or a proprietary license should consider alternatives better aligned with those requirements.
NetKeep pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Permanent Git history with unified and side-by-side configuration diffs
- Inventory synchronization with LibreNMS and NetBox
- Encrypted credentials, backups, RBAC, TOTP, and passkey support
- Where it doesn't
- Self-hosted deployment requires Docker Compose on a Linux server
- Configuration collection through Oxidized is read-only
- AGPL-3.0 licensing may not fit proprietary software policies
