EtherScope nXG is a handheld network analyzer from NetAlly for network engineers and technicians deploying, validating, and troubleshooting Ethernet and enterprise Wi-Fi in the field. It brings discovery, path tracing, packet capture, connectivity checks, and performance tests together in one device. Its listed environments include Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 and multi-gig and 10G Ethernet, alongside PoE. That makes it a fit for teams that need to investigate both wired and wireless networks on site, rather than a general-purpose software tool for remote monitoring alone.
The breadth of its tests is the main distinction. Wired checks cover PoE, link speed, 802.1X, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, and connectivity; Wi-Fi tests cover connection, authentication, channel utilization, and roaming. It can capture wired and Wi-Fi traffic to PCAP files, trace paths through intermediate switches and routers, and run iPerf TCP/UDP throughput tests with iPerf v3.0 servers. LANBERT qualifies copper and fiber cabling, while Link-Live can turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth/BLE site survey results into heat maps. Teams needing several field diagnostics in one workflow may value that range; teams focused on a single test type may prefer a narrower tool.
EtherScope nXG is physical handheld hardware, not a software subscription, and the vendor directs purchases through resellers. Test results can be uploaded to Link-Live for reporting and collaboration, so its workflow spans the analyzer and a web companion. Wi-Fi site surveys and spectrum analysis use an optional analyzer accessory. The vendor lists email, phone, and documentation support, without 24/7 support. Choose it when field technicians need wired and Wi-Fi troubleshooting plus cabling qualification; look elsewhere if the requirement is software-only deployment or a workflow that does not depend on dedicated handheld equipment.
NetAlly EtherScope nXG pros and cons

- Discovers wired and Wi-Fi devices and traces paths through switches and routers
- Combines wired, Wi-Fi, throughput, and PCAP tests in a handheld analyzer
- Uploads test results to Link-Live for reporting and collaboration
- Where it doesn't
- Physical handheld hardware may not suit teams seeking software-only troubleshooting
- Some Wi-Fi survey and spectrum analysis work requires an optional analyzer accessory
- Results and collaboration depend on the Link-Live companion platform
