Our verdict on Muse

Muse is an AI-assisted composition workspace for musicians and producers who want to generate and refine MIDI arrangements. Natural-language prompts can produce melodies, chords, basslines, drums, and multi-track parts; the workspace also supports editing or extending existing MIDI, importing MIDI as context, and converting recorded or uploaded audio to MIDI. Piano-roll editing and MIDI or WAV export make the generated material available for further work in a DAW. It is offered on the web and as desktop software for macOS and Windows.

The free plan supports generating and editing MIDI loops with AI, but comes with limited agent credits and no premium-model access. Pro costs $15 per month and adds 200 credits per month, premium models, Muse Max for Live, Vital AI synth preset generation, and commercial-use export. One-time Boost packs cost $5 for 50 credits, $10 for 110, or $20 for 250; their credits do not expire. This gives occasional users a free entry point and a way to add credits without a recurring plan, while regular generation may make Pro more relevant.

Muse's feature set spans prompt-led composition, MIDI editing, audio-to-MIDI conversion, and exports of projects or individual tracks as MIDI, as well as compositions as WAV. Ableton Live users can run the separate Max for Live device inside the DAW, and Vital is also listed as an integration. The product is a good fit for solo creators and small teams who want AI assistance across arrangement parts and still want editable MIDI. It may be a less suitable choice for producers specifically seeking a VST or AU plugin, or for workflows that require a dedicated plugin rather than Muse's web or desktop workspace and its Ableton device.
