Our verdict on mPay
mPay is a cardless, cashless digital wallet from Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), powered by Qatar’s mobile payment network, QMP. It is aimed at people in Qatar who want a focused way to store funds, send money, request payments and pay participating merchants from a phone. The wallet runs on iOS and Android, and users can register without a QIB bank account, although QIB directs registration through its mobile app.
The published pricing model is free, with a free plan covering the wallet’s listed functions. Funding can be added from a QIB account through the QIB Mobile App, while wallet balances can be transferred back to a QIB account. For person-to-person payments, mPay sends funds to other mPay wallets using mobile numbers and supports payment requests from other QIB customers. Its platform fit is defined by the QIB Mobile App and QMP rather than a wide range of external services.
For in-store use, mPay lets users scan QR codes at QMP-registered merchants. That gives the wallet a clear payment flow, but its merchant reach depends on QMP participation. The product’s scope is also narrower than a full-service wallet: its published functions focus on wallet funding, transfers, requests, QR payments and QIB cash-out. Choose mPay if you want those core mobile payment tasks in Qatar and value QIB connectivity. Consider another wallet if you need a broader ecosystem, more payment methods or features beyond this focused set.
