Our verdict on ModDex
ModDex is a web-based discovery and review platform for Minecraft mods and modpacks, aimed at people researching projects and comparing packs. It combines catalog metadata from CurseForge and Modrinth in shared listings, with ratings, written reviews, files, relations, version and loader information, and links to downloads on the original platforms. Browsing is available without an account; libraries, stacks, follows, notifications, pack comparison, and the modpack finder are available to registered users.
Its strongest fit is research across a broad Minecraft ecosystem. Filters cover Minecraft version, mod loader, genre, theme, and features; supported loaders include Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, Datapack, Quilt, Paper, Spigot, and Sponge. Project pages show metadata and dependencies, while the modpack finder narrows packs by versions, loaders, genres, themes, and required mods. Side-by-side comparison can help distinguish packs, and user-created stacks organize and share projects. Listings link back to CurseForge or Modrinth rather than hosting or redistributing files.
ModDex is free, and its web platform also offers an authenticated REST API for project data, reviews, and tags. That API is a more involved path than browsing: its documentation requires sign-in and endpoints require an authentication token. CurseForge and Modrinth supply the project catalog connections, with Discord also listed as an integration. Researchers who want a shared catalog, comparison tools, and community reviews should find the focus relevant; players looking for a file host or direct distribution platform should choose another option.
