Modality is a deployment platform for engineers who need isolated environments for GitHub changes. It builds applications from GitHub repositories and deploys them to managed cloud infrastructure or self-hosted runners. Pull requests receive unique preview URLs, and previews are rebuilt when changes arrive. The platform also supports continuous deployment from GitHub pushes, projects managed within Modality, draft-based previews, team access controls, and AI-assisted application building through Modai.

Pricing is straightforward for teams starting with GitHub previews. The 7-day Trial includes the full Modality Cloud with no card required. Basic costs $9 per month and includes a $9 monthly usage credit, Git deploys and Raypacks, managed databases, and one self-hosted runner. Silver costs $29 per month with a $29 usage credit, 4 vCPU and 8 GB memory per Frame, plus three self-hosted runners. Platinum costs $59 per month with an $59 usage credit, 8 vCPU and 16 GB memory per Frame, plus five self-hosted runners. Additional self-hosted runners cost $5 per runner per month and support deployment to your own hardware.

The strongest fit is a GitHub-centered team that wants preview lifecycle automation alongside deployment controls. Modality automatically tears down previews when pull requests close or merge, and adds rollback, runtime logs, request metrics, and custom domains with automatic TLS for primary deployments. Self-hosted runners extend deployment to customer hardware, while managed databases cover common relational, document, and cache workloads. Preview custom domains are not supported: previews use generated nubo.onl hostnames. Database previews apply to Modality Source/Draft previews, while ordinary GitHub pull-request previews use isolated application environments and require explicitly configured database connections. Teams needing integrations beyond GitHub or custom domains on preview URLs should choose another platform.
