MLRun review
A broad open-source MLOps platform for teams that need more than experiment tracking.

MLRun is an open-source AI orchestration platform for data scientists, data engineers, and ML engineers. It covers experiment tracking, model training, registration and versioning, workflow orchestration, serving, monitoring, feature management, and CI/CD automation. Experiment records can include metrics, plots, datasets, metadata, and parameters, while the model registry stores artifacts, metadata, versions, and deployment support. Teams can deploy it on Kubernetes or AWS clusters, use self-hosted environments, or connect with Iguazio’s managed service.
Its ecosystem fit is a central strength. MLRun integrates with Kubernetes, AWS EKS, Azure AKS, GKE, Spark, Dask, Horovod/MPI, Kafka, Jupyter, and VS Code. For delivery workflows, it connects with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, and Kubeflow Pipelines, while SageMaker and AzureML are also supported. The platform includes batch and multi-stage orchestration, real-time serverless model-serving pipelines, data lineage and versioning, and a feature store for collecting, transforming, cataloging, serving, and monitoring features. Elastic resource allocation, autoscaling, and GPU provisioning extend its scope to production workloads.
MLRun suits teams that want experiment tracking within a wider MLOps system, particularly those comfortable with open-source deployment and infrastructure management. Monitoring can cover models, data, applications, and resources, with alerts and retraining triggers. The 14-day trial applies to Iguazio’s managed service, while the Community Edition is open source and self-hostable. Teams seeking a focused tracking tool with a narrower operational footprint may prefer a dedicated experiment-tracking product instead; MLRun’s value is its breadth across the machine-learning lifecycle.
MLRun pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Tracks metrics, plots, datasets, metadata, and parameters
- Combines registries, orchestration, serving, lineage, and monitoring
- Runs across Kubernetes, cloud clusters, notebooks, IDEs, and APIs
- Where it doesn't
- Broader than teams seeking dedicated experiment tracking alone
- Production capabilities may require Kubernetes or self-hosted operations
- Managed-service access is offered through a 14-day trial
