Our verdict on mitlist
mitlist is a shared household organization app for people living together. Its shopping lists update in real time and support item claiming, price recording, and store sorting. Beyond groceries, it brings together recipe saving, meal planning, recurring chores, expense splitting, a shared calendar, and a pinwall for notes, reminders, photos, and links. It is available on the web, iOS, Android, and through an API, with self-hosting also supported. The software is open source under AGPL-3.0.
The plans are straightforward. The Free plan costs €0 and includes all features for households of up to four people, with a 100-list limit. Premium monthly costs €3.99 per month, while Premium yearly costs €29.99 per year; both include all features for households of five or more people. The product is in public beta, and mobile apps are available for testing. Store prices may vary by region, with taxes and final amounts shown before payment.
mitlist stands out through breadth rather than a single-purpose shopping workflow. Recipes can be converted into shopping-list items, chores can rotate with reminders, expenses can be split by shares, percentages, or exact amounts, and printed or handwritten grocery lists can be scanned on-device. Self-hosting uses PostgreSQL and S3-compatible storage, and Home Assistant is listed as an integration. Choose mitlist if your household wants one shared system for shopping and home coordination, particularly if self-hosting or open source matters. Households of five or more should budget for Premium, while shoppers seeking only a simple list may find its wider feature set unnecessary.
