Our verdict on MindAR

MindAR is an open-source JavaScript library for developers building augmented reality experiences for the web. It supports image and face tracking, and can be added to static HTML pages or installed with npm. Rather than a no-code authoring suite or hosted publishing platform, it supplies a tracking engine and APIs for developers to incorporate into their own web experiences. It is a fit for solo developers and small teams who want to add web AR tracking and are comfortable working with code; teams seeking a visual authoring workflow should look elsewhere.

Image tracking has a defined workflow: compile target images into a data file, then build a webpage that uses the target to position 3D content. MindAR provides a browser-based image-target compiler, supports compiling and tracking multiple image targets, and exposes a core API for compiling targets and controlling the AR engine. Developers can customize loading, error, and scanning UI. A-Frame and Three.js integrations give teams using either framework a way to connect the library to their existing web AR work. Face tracking is also supported, though the product details describe less about its workflow than they do for image tracking.

The open-source model means MindAR is available as a free plan, with no paid tiers described here. Documentation and community are its listed support channels. Its scope is deliberately developer-oriented: it does not provide no-code authoring, collaboration, or experience analytics. That makes it a reasonable option when tracking functionality and framework integration are the priority, but a poor match for buyers who need a complete AR creation and publishing environment, team workflows, or built-in measurement. Those requirements point toward a broader authoring platform rather than a JavaScript library.
