Microsoft SharePoint review
A Microsoft-integrated document management platform with granular control and workflow automation.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Microsoft SharePoint combines document management, collaboration, intranet publishing, and workflow automation in a web-based platform for organizations. It provides document libraries, file storage, sharing, search, permissions, version history, team sites, internal pages, news, and communications. Teams can use it to manage organizational content, coordinate work, and control access from the site level down to individual items. Web, iOS, and Android access support work across desktop and mobile environments.
The published Business Basic plan is priced at $7 per user per month with annual billing and includes SharePoint. There is no free plan. SharePoint’s platform fit is strongest for organizations already working with Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Power Automate, or Microsoft 365 Copilot. Teams and channel files can connect with SharePoint storage, while Power Automate supports workflow automation. This makes the product a natural choice when document management needs to sit alongside Microsoft collaboration and productivity tools.
Its control layer is a central strength. Users can view and restore earlier document versions, apply granular permissions at multiple levels, search and index organizational content, and review audit logs and change-history reports for SharePoint activity. OCR supports images, PDFs, and supported Office files, helping make stored content searchable. SharePoint suits organizations that need document libraries, internal publishing, access control, and automation in one Microsoft-centered environment. Organizations seeking a free plan or a less Microsoft-focused ecosystem should consider other document management options.
