MetaGeek App is desktop software for WLAN professionals who need real-time Layer 2 wireless analysis on Windows or macOS. It captures and visualizes 802.11 traffic, identifies packet events such as roaming and association failures, follows clients across channels, and provides contextual packet decoding. The software supports Wi-Fi 7 analysis across the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands when paired with compatible capture hardware, making it suited to detailed troubleshooting rather than general-purpose wireless surveying.

Pricing is structured around either ownership or an annual subscription. The Perpetual License costs $1,500 one time and includes one year of MetaCare. The Annual Subscription costs $500 per year and includes software updates and support. There is no free plan, although a free account can open the first five minutes of a packet capture. That access does not function as a time-limited paid trial. The pricing choice is therefore straightforward: pay more upfront for a perpetual license, or choose the lower initial cost of annual billing with updates and support included.

Its strongest fit is a packet-analysis workflow that benefits from automatic event detection, intelligent client following, packet flow visualization, and PCAP export to Wireshark or OmniPeek. The integration list also includes Oscium Nomad, WLAN Pi Go, Wi-Spy Lucid, and Wi-Spy DBx, supporting a broader hardware and analysis workflow. However, MetaGeek App does not provide survey features, and its narrow focus makes it less suitable for teams seeking a wider Wi-Fi assessment tool. Choose it for specialist Layer 2 troubleshooting; choose an alternative when survey work is central.

MetaGeek App pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Real-time packet capture, decoding, visualization, and event detection
    • Follows clients across channels and manages adapter channels automatically
    • Exports PCAP files to Wireshark and OmniPeek; parses Wi-Fi 7 protocols
  • Where it doesn't
    • $1,500 perpetual license makes the entry cost high
    • No survey features for broader wireless site assessments
    • Specialist scope may exceed the needs of general Wi-Fi analysis
