Memship is open-source, self-hosted membership management software for associations, sports clubs, cultural organizations, and other member-based entities. It brings together member records, membership types, activities, registrations, payments, recurring billing, reminders, receipts, invoicing, communications, and a member portal. The published description positions it for organizations with hundreds to a few thousand members, often run by volunteers or small teams. Its free core includes the full application, self-hosted deployment, no subscriptions, and no per-member fees.

For billing operations, Memship covers recurring fee generation, overdue payment email reminders, PDF receipts, VAT breakdowns, and configurable invoice numbering. Payment workflows include Stripe Checkout, Redsys, Bizum, and SEPA direct debit mandate and remittance management, with card and bank payment methods represented in the category specifications. The member portal supports registration, profiles, payments, and digital member cards, while activities, eligibility checks, waiting lists, discounts, and self-service renewals support more involved membership programs. SMTP and Resend support email notifications, and Docker, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, and React fit a technical deployment environment.

The main trade-off is operational ownership: organizations run Memship on their own server using Docker and retain control of their data, so it suits teams prepared to manage a self-hosted application. The product has web, API, and self-hosted coverage, but a mobile app is still in development. Memship is a strong fit for technical teams that want open-source billing without subscription or per-member fees, especially where membership administration and payment collection need to sit in one system. Organizations seeking a hosted service or a current mobile app should consider a different option.
