MeetingBro is an open-source desktop AI meeting assistant for students, professionals, researchers, privacy-conscious users, and developers. It captures microphone or system audio directly from a computer, then uses local Whisper speech transcription for live captions. It supports meetings on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, BigBlueButton, and other platforms without requiring platform plugins or meeting-API integrations. The application runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and its free plan includes the core meeting workflow.
Its strongest distinction is the combination of local transcription and practical meeting organization. Users can translate between Chinese, English, and German, generate rolling AI summaries, and maintain a Meeting Board with topics, decisions, action items, and open questions. Optional speaker diarization adds speaker separation, while meeting history supports revisiting, exporting, or deleting past meetings. Transcripts, summaries, and notes can be exported to Markdown, making the output usable outside the application.
MeetingBro also accommodates different AI setups. Summaries can use local or cloud LLMs, with integrations for OpenAI, Groq, Ollama, Mistral AI, OpenRouter, Together AI, and OpenAI-compatible APIs. Cloud providers may involve separate API credentials or usage charges, while local processing better suits users who want to keep transcription on their computer. The trade-offs are a three-language translation scope and no calendar integrations. Choose MeetingBro for open-source, desktop-based captions, translation, and structured notes; look elsewhere if calendar workflows or broader language coverage are central requirements.
