Our verdict on Mayday
Mayday is a web-based month-end automation and close-management platform for finance teams using Xero, QuickBooks Online, or Intuit Enterprise Suite. It brings together task and checklist management, balance-sheet reconciliations, review workflows, sign-offs, recurring templates, audit logs, and close progress tracking across team members, areas, and entities. It also covers intercompany reconciliation, departmental recharges, deferred revenue, prepayments, accruals, and P&L variance analysis with AI commentary. The product is particularly suited to small multi-entity teams that want structured close processes without starting with a paid plan.
Its pricing is organized around a two-entity group. The free Basic plan includes a Balancer for intercompany balances. Passive costs £17 per month when billed monthly or £14 per month when billed annually, adding unlimited intercompany balances, FX adjustments, interest, downloadable reports, asymmetry fixes, and live-chat support. Active costs £42 monthly or £34 monthly with annual billing, adding AR/AP matching, unlimited Recharger rules, unlimited BRAG transactions, and unlimited Mayday HQ access. Advanced costs £60 monthly or £48 monthly annually, with bespoke rule creation, guided setups, and a dedicated account manager. A 30-day trial is also available, and the published starting price is £12.50 per month when billed annually.
The strongest fit is for teams whose accounting workflows align with Mayday’s supported integrations and whose close process involves multiple entities, recurring work, approvals, or intercompany activity. The combination of checklists, ownership, review status, entity-level progress, and automation can reduce reliance on spreadsheet-based coordination. Teams needing AR/AP matching, recharge rules, or guided implementation should look at Active or Advanced rather than the free Basic tier. Mayday is less suitable for organizations requiring a broader integration ecosystem or a non-web deployment. Its focused platform and tiered pricing make it a practical choice for smaller finance teams, while more complex organizations should assess whether the supported systems and plan structure match their operating model.
