Mastra is an open-source TypeScript framework for building AI applications and agents. It combines agent definitions with models, tools, memory, and instructions, alongside durable workflows for multi-step orchestration. Developers can deploy applications in Node.js-compatible environments, cloud providers, or their own infrastructure. Its breadth makes it a fit for TypeScript teams shipping agent-based applications that need workflow control and observability, rather than developers looking for a narrowly scoped component.
Workflow capabilities are a notable strength: flows can branch, run steps in parallel, stream, and suspend and resume. Mastra also provides a model router for access to thousands of models, MCP tools and external tool integration, plus Studio for building and testing agents and workflows. Observability includes traces, logs, metrics, and token and cost tracking. These pieces span development and operations, though teams should assess whether this framework's TypeScript focus fits their stack.
Pricing differs by deployment. The hosted Starter plan is free and includes 100K observability events, 24 CPU hours, and 15-day data retention, with unlimited users, deployments, and projects. Teams costs $250 per month and raises those allowances to 1M events, 250 CPU hours, and 6-month retention; it also adds multiple teams, SSO, and SOC 2 docs. Hosted Enterprise has custom volume and retention, RBAC, audit logs, support and uptime SLAs, and a dedicated support engineer. Free self-hosting is Apache 2.0 licensed; self-hosted Enterprise adds licensed features and keeps data in your VPC for a flat annual fee. Choose Mastra if durable workflows and flexible deployment matter; teams seeking another language focus or simpler scope may prefer a narrower option.
