Maptio review
A flexible organisational mapping tool for teams beyond traditional hierarchies.

Maptio is an organisational mapping tool for purpose-driven organisations, founders, coaches, and consultants. It maps areas of responsibility, teams, projects, roles, and collaboration networks with nested-circle visualisations rather than relying only on a conventional reporting hierarchy. People can browse responsibilities, identify leading and supporting roles, use a directory with tags and role descriptions, and share maps privately or publicly. Maps can also be embedded in other websites, making Maptio suitable for teams that need to explain how work is organised internally or externally.
The plan structure gives teams several control levels. Self-hosted is open-source software that organisations install and run themselves, with setup, support, and maintenance handled by the customer. Maptio Standard is a hosted platform priced from $10 per month, with unlimited maps and human-powered technical support; the plan also includes customer-selected contribution. Maptio Custom provides a tailored instance that is maintained and supported, with the highest level of control, data protection, integrations, and security. A 30-day free trial is available.
Maptio’s main distinction is breadth beyond reporting lines: responsibility browsing, project and team mapping, collaboration networks, private or public sharing, embedding, and role context all sit within the same mapping approach. That makes it a strong fit for self-managing or purpose-driven organisations that need to show how work connects. Teams seeking a standard hierarchical org chart, or a platform with ready-made integrations, should consider an alternative focused more narrowly on conventional organisational structures and connected business systems.
