MapsAlive is a browser-based tool for turning maps, floor plans, diagrams, photographs, and drawings into interactive tours. It is aimed at individuals and organizations creating visual guides, exhibits, floor plans, directories, and location-based presentations. Users can upload an image, place hotspots or markers, add text, images, video, audio, or web content, and publish the result on a web page or as a standalone URL. Responsive layouts, zoomable maps, mobile app mode, iframe embedding, and a JavaScript API support both simple presentations and developer-controlled experiences.

The published plans show annual pricing at three levels. Basic costs $49 per year and includes interactive and responsive maps, iframe embedding, mobile app mode, zoomable maps, and the JavaScript API. Plus costs $99 per year and adds directories and categories, Live Data, banners, routes, imported marker shapes, and custom branding. Pro costs $199 per year and includes all Plus features along with private tours, archived tours, duplicated tours, imported routes, and custom branding. A 30-day free trial is available, but there is no free plan. The platform is available on the web and through an API.

MapsAlive fits projects where the source material is an image and the goal is guided exploration rather than broad geographic analysis. Its support for galleries, routes, live external information, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and downloaded tours hosted on another server gives teams several publishing and customization options. However, its image-based approach is less suitable for geographic data mapping. More importantly, MapsAlive is no longer signing up new users, and the login page states that the product will be discontinued effective January 1, 2027. Existing users with a near-term image-tour need may find its feature set relevant; teams starting a new long-term mapping project should choose a product that will remain available.

MapsAlive pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Turns images into zoomable maps with hotspots, markers, and rich media
    • Supports iframe embeds, mobile mode, JavaScript, and API control
    • Plus and Pro add directories, live data, routes, branding, and private tours
  • Where it doesn't
    • No free plan; annual pricing starts at $49
    • Image-based focus is narrower for broad geographic data mapping
    • No longer accepts new users and is scheduled to discontinue January 1, 2027
