Our verdict on mail.co.uk
mail.co.uk is a personal email service for individuals and small teams seeking @mail.co.uk addresses, encrypted email, aliases, storage and calendar tools. It provides webmail access alongside iOS and Android apps, with contacts, online file storage, file sharing, spam and virus filtering, two-factor authentication, and POP3, IMAP and SMTP access. The service also supports CalDAV, CardDAV and WebDAV, giving it a practical fit for users who want email alongside standard calendar, contact and file-access protocols.
The FreeMail plan costs £0 per month and includes 1 GB of email and online storage, one mailbox, one alias, a 50-email daily limit, end-to-end encryption, and spam and virus protection. A 30-day free trial is also available. PlusMail costs £2.49 per month billed annually and adds 5 GB of quota, an ad-free mailbox, 10 aliases, a 500-email daily limit, and professional spam and virus protection. ProMail costs £3.99 per month billed annually, with 20 GB, 20 aliases and a 2,500-email daily limit. PowerMail costs £6.49 per month billed annually and includes unlimited email and online storage, 30 aliases, a 5,000-email daily limit and prioritised support. Premium prices include VAT and use 12-month contracts paid at the beginning of the term.
Privacy and account control are central strengths. End-to-end email encryption, two-factor authentication, spam and virus protection, and GDPR compliance support a security-focused personal mailbox, while aliases help separate addresses for different uses. The main trade-off is scale: FreeMail has limited storage and sending capacity, while even PowerMail has a daily sending limit. mail.co.uk suits personal users and small organisations that want encrypted, ad-free email with mobile access and familiar protocols. Users needing higher sending volumes or a different mailbox ecosystem should consider an alternative.
