Our verdict on Magic DosBox
Magic DosBox is an open-source Android port of DOSBox for running users’ own MS-DOS games and applications on phones, tablets, and other Android devices. It is aimed at Android users who want configurable touch controls alongside physical keyboard, mouse, stylus, or gamepad input. The app also covers Sound Blaster, PC speaker, and MIDI audio, plus CD-ROM and ISO mounting, screenshots, networking, and DOSBox settings.
The free Lite plan supports one game profile and three widget types, which is enough for a focused setup but restrictive for a larger collection. The Donated plan expands the collection to unlimited games, enables all widget types, and adds profile import and duplication. It suits users who want to manage multiple games or reuse configurations across setups, while the Lite tier is better for trying the core emulator with a single title.
Its strongest area is configuration depth rather than platform breadth. Users can build game profiles, adjust virtual controls, save and load states, mount CD-ROM or ISO media, and export or import game layouts. Physical input and networking support broaden the range of DOS software it can accommodate. Magic DosBox is a good fit for Android users who already own compatible DOS games and value detailed control customization. It is less suitable for users on other platforms, anyone expecting included games, or players who need fully dependable save-state behavior.
