MacroDroid is an Android device-automation app for creating trigger-based macros without programming. It suits solo users and small teams that want to automate device settings, file management, messaging responses, sound profiles, app launches, and location-based actions. Macros combine triggers, actions, and optional constraints, so automations can respond to app launches, sensors, connectivity changes, schedules, locations, and device states. Wear OS support extends selected automation use to a companion wearable.

The Free plan is ad-supported and allows up to 5 macros. The Pro plan removes ads and enables unlimited macros through a one-time purchase, with no subscription. That structure makes the free tier suitable for exploring the workflow or maintaining a small collection of automations, while Pro is the clearer fit for users who need more than five macros or want an ad-free experience. Support channels include email, community resources, and documentation.

MacroDroid’s main distinction is the amount of control available inside individual macros. It includes over 120 triggers, over 200 actions, constraints, user-defined variables, dictionaries, arrays, IF/THEN/ELSE logic, AND/OR conditions, and loops. Tasker and Locale plugin support, a community template store, Google services, Gmail, and an AI Macro Builder broaden its options. The trade-off is platform scope: MacroDroid is limited to Android and mobile deployment. Choose it for detailed Android automation with a substantial free tier; choose a cross-platform option instead if automation across other operating systems is essential.

MacroDroid pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • 120+ triggers and 200+ actions support detailed automations
    • Variables, logic, constraints, plugins, and templates add depth
    • Free plan includes Wear OS support and AI Macro Builder
  • Where it doesn't
    • Android-only deployment limits cross-platform use
    • Free plan is ad-supported and capped at five macros
    • Advanced workflows may require time to configure
