Lucee Server review
A free, self-hosted CFML engine with broad deployment and application-server features.

Lucee Server is an open-source CFML engine written in Java for teams building and running web applications with CFML or CFScript. It fits developers who need a self-hosted application server with database connectivity, transaction support, ORM, caching, scheduling, REST and other web-service capabilities. Deployment is available on Windows, Linux and macOS, with support for Java servlet-container environments and container-oriented setups.
Pricing is straightforward: Lucee Server itself is free and open source. There are no product subscription tiers described for the server; supporter contributions are treated separately from the product. That makes Lucee a practical option for teams that want to avoid license fees and retain control over hosting. The trade-off is ownership of deployment, configuration and maintenance. Teams can choose Tomcat or Jetty, Docker, JAR, WAR or Express deployment, while the web-based Lucee Administrator provides configuration and maintenance controls.
The feature set extends beyond basic CFML execution. Lucee includes clustering and failover, template, query, function and user caching, virtual file systems such as S3, FTP and HTTP, scheduling with schedule logging, and REST support. These capabilities make it suitable for CFML applications that need operational flexibility rather than a narrowly focused runtime. Teams already working with Java servlet containers or self-managed infrastructure should find the deployment model aligned with their environment. Teams seeking a fully managed hosted service or a platform centered on a different application framework should look elsewhere.
