Our verdict on LivingWriter
LivingWriter is a cloud-based writing application for authors, screenwriters, novelists, students, and professionals who want a single place to plan and draft longer work. Its chapter, scene, and section organization supports drag-and-drop reordering, while planning, manuscript, element, and research boards help keep supporting material close to the draft. Writing goals, word-count tracking, notes, to-do lists, comments, stash, and footnotes round out the workspace. It is suited to writers who value structure and AI assistance; writers who need to work offline should look elsewhere.
The free plan includes one manuscript, up to 25,000 words, the full editor with chapters and subchapters, PDF export, and 3 AI requests per month. Pro expands this to unlimited manuscripts and word count, adds Word import and DOCX and print export, goals, Stash and Research Board, Canva and Google Drive integration, sharing and collaboration, and 25 AI requests per month. Pro + AI includes everything in Pro and unlimited AI requests across features, plus AI outlines and element generation, rewriting, analysis, summarization, screenplay conversion, chat, and image creation. The pricing page advertises a 7-day trial; the published starting price is 15. The plan details make the free tier a bounded way to start, while heavier AI use is reserved for Pro + AI.
Platform coverage spans web, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, with real-time autosave and cloud synchronization. The export choices suit writers preparing manuscripts for different formats, and revision history offers comparison and restoration of earlier drafts. The trade-off is the cloud-dependent workflow: offline mode is not available, despite desktop offline mode appearing on the roadmap as coming soon for Q4 2026. Choose LivingWriter if manuscript organization, revision recovery, publishing exports, and AI features matter more than offline access. If uninterrupted offline drafting is essential, its current online-only approach is a meaningful limitation.
