Our verdict on LiveKit Agents
LiveKit Agents is an open-source framework and cloud platform for building realtime, programmable voice and multimodal AI agents. It is designed for developers and teams creating conversational voice applications and other realtime AI experiences. Agents can connect language, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and realtime model providers, then run on LiveKit Cloud or self-hosted infrastructure. The platform also supports inbound and outbound calls, agent dispatch, transfers, handoffs, external tools, testing, recordings, transcripts, traces, and logs.
Its strongest advantage is the breadth of realtime agent infrastructure in one product. Developers can use integrations with OpenAI, Google, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, Cartesia, ElevenLabs, Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, Exotel, and WhatsApp Business. Telephony can run through phone numbers or SIP, with cold and warm transfers to people, phone numbers, or SIP endpoints. Agent handoffs, multi-agent workflows, MCP, and concurrent session management make it suited to applications that need more than a single conversational session. The published category specifications include support for inbound calls, outbound calls, custom phone numbers, human handoff, and 20 concurrent calls.
Pricing follows a freemium structure. Build is $0 per month, Ship is $50 per month, Scale is $500 per month, and Enterprise is available as a plan. The $50 monthly starting price applies to LiveKit Cloud's Ship plan, while the Agents framework itself is open source. That combination gives teams a self-hosted route as well as managed cloud options. Pick LiveKit Agents when voice, multimodal interaction, telephony, and agent orchestration are central requirements.
