Our verdict on LISE++
LISE++ is desktop software for simulating radioactive-beam production and transport through fragment and recoil separators. Its intended audience is nuclear-physics researchers planning separator experiments at medium- and high-energy facilities, particularly those modeling reaction products and rare-isotope beams. It calculates fragment transmission and yields and covers projectile-fragmentation, fusion-evaporation, fusion-fission, Coulomb-fission and abrasion-fission reactions. Windows, macOS and Linux packages are available.
The breadth is tailored to this research workflow rather than general-purpose physics simulation. Monte Carlo options cover fragment transmission and fission-fragment kinematics, while ion-optics calculation and optimization support spectrometer design from configurable blocks. Built-in plots cover energy loss, time of flight, position, angle, charge and cross section. Relativistic kinematics, evaporation, radiation-residue, ion-mass and matrix calculators sit alongside nuclide, isomeric-state, mass, ionization-energy and decay databases. Charge-state codes include ETACHA4, Global and Charge; related integrations include LISE for Excel, PACE4, GEMINI++ and MOTER.
LISE++ is freeware, with downloadable desktop packages and no paid tiers described. That makes it a fit for researchers seeking specialized calculation and design capabilities without a software subscription. The trade-off is its narrow domain and desktop delivery: it is not positioned as a general simulation environment or a hosted collaboration service. Email and documentation are the listed support channels. Researchers whose work centers on reaction products, separator transport and ion optics should consider it; those needing a broader simulation remit or browser-based deployment should look elsewhere.
