Our verdict on LibreOffice Impress
LibreOffice Impress is the presentation component of the LibreOffice office suite, designed for creating multimedia slide presentations. It suits individuals, schools, organizations, and other users who want traditional desktop presentation software without a paid plan. Impress supports text, lists, tables, charts, drawings, photographs, animations, transitions, master slides, backgrounds, and templates. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, with an official Impress Remote companion for Android and iOS.
The pricing model is straightforward: the Free and open source plan includes presentation creation, templates and master slides, animations and transitions, and OpenDocument and Microsoft Office compatibility. Presentations use OpenDocument Presentation format and can be opened or saved in Microsoft PowerPoint formats. Export options include PDF, HTML, and graphic formats, giving users several ways to share or publish finished slides. For conventional slide authoring, the feature set covers both content creation and presentation delivery, including presenter console and multi-display slideshow controls.
Impress also fits users who value desktop operating-system coverage and local presentation control. The mobile companion can control presentations remotely from Android or iOS devices, but it is not a full mobile presentation editor. Its focus is narrower than products built around AI-assisted design, integrations, or verified collaboration. Choose Impress for free, open-source slide creation with familiar presentation formats, templates, animations, and presenter tools. Consider another presentation product if AI features, collaboration, or full mobile editing are central requirements.
