LibreELEC USB-SD Creator review
A focused, free tool for creating LibreELEC installation media on Windows and macOS.

LibreELEC USB-SD Creator is a free, open-source desktop utility for selecting, downloading, and writing LibreELEC images to USB sticks or SD cards. It is intended for users installing LibreELEC, a lightweight Linux distribution built for Kodi on supported media-center hardware. The tool is available for Windows x64 and macOS, making it a practical fit for LibreELEC installations from those host systems.
The workflow centers on image selection and media creation. Users can choose images for supported hardware, download the latest stable release, or reveal older stable releases with the Show all option. Previously downloaded local .img.gz files are also supported. After selecting removable media, the creator writes the image and displays progress and completion status. It can refresh the removable-device list, which helps when a USB stick or SD card is connected after the application is open. LibreELEC images include a persistent storage partition, while the creator does not document a configurable persistence option.
Platform scope is the main boundary. The current official downloads provide Windows x64 and macOS versions, while Linux is not currently available. The utility is focused on LibreELEC images rather than serving as a general-purpose bootable USB writer for unrelated operating systems. It also overwrites data on the selected target device, so the destination must be chosen carefully. Pick it if your goal is creating LibreELEC media from a Windows or macOS computer, especially when you need older releases or local image files. Choose an alternative if you need Linux support, broader image compatibility, or configurable persistence controls.
