Our verdict on LeanLaw

LeanLaw is cloud-based legal billing and accounting software for law firms, particularly firms that use QuickBooks Online as a financial foundation. It combines time and expense tracking, professional invoicing, trust and IOLTA accounting, online invoice and trust payment links, card and ACH payments, matter-based accounting, and financial reporting. Web, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and API access support firms that need billing workflows across desktop and mobile environments.

Pricing starts with Core at $55 per user per month, billed monthly. It includes time and expense tracking, e-payments, a reporting dashboard, trust accounting, professional invoices, and two-way QuickBooks Online sync. Pro costs $75 per user per month and adds three custom invoice templates, LEDES files, precise user permissions, and matter-based accounting. Contingency adds settlement processing, lien management and tracking, automated settlement statements, case-profitability reporting, and native QuickBooks Online sync. Elite adds unlimited invoice templates, priority support with a dedicated manager, custom reporting, and compensation tracking. Annual billing is available, and a one-time onboarding fee may apply depending on the plan and firm size.

QuickBooks Online is the central ecosystem fit, with additional integrations for Microsoft 365 Calendar, NetDocuments, Zapier, and the LeanLaw API. The product is well suited to firms that want billing, payments, trust accounting, reconciliation tools, and reporting connected to their accounting workflow. Firms handling contingency matters may value the dedicated settlement and lien features, while larger teams may prefer Pro or Elite for permissions, templates, reporting, and support. It is less suitable for buyers seeking a broad practice management system beyond accounting and billing, or for firms requiring payment plans as a defined feature.
