Layerbase Cloud TypeDB review
A low-cost managed TypeDB service with useful developer tools and single-region limits.

Layerbase Cloud TypeDB is a managed hosting service for TypeDB 3.x knowledge graphs and TypeQL applications. It is aimed at teams working with typed schemas, relationship-heavy domains, and knowledge graph workloads that want hosted databases instead of managing the infrastructure directly. TypeQL access is available through the TypeDB gRPC protocol, with official TypeDB drivers, a browser-based query console, REST API provisioning, CLI provisioning, and support for web, desktop, server, API, and self-hosted development workflows.
Pricing is straightforward across four monthly plans. Free provides TypeDB hosting for 2 databases, 5 GB of storage, and up to 20 concurrent connections without a credit card. Solo costs $5 per month and adds one always-on database, daily backups, and 7-day backup retention. Pro costs $15 per month, supports up to 10 databases, adds all engines, an always-on pool, 30-day backups, and mTLS for PostgreSQL. Dedicated costs $35 per server per month and provides a private single-tenant VM, a region-pinned server, no database or branch cap, and all engines. A 7-day free trial is also available.
The strongest fit is a TypeDB project that benefits from database branching, isolated copies, TLS enabled by default, connection pooling, direct connections, and scale-to-zero hibernation with wake-on-connect. Paid plans include scheduled backups and one-click restore, while the Free plan provides one manual backup slot. Layerbase also lists Vercel and GitHub integrations, and local development can use Layerbase Desktop or the CLI. The trade-off is operational scope: high availability and multi-region replication are not shipped, and deployment is single-region. Choose Layerbase for affordable managed TypeDB development and smaller production workloads; consider an alternative when multi-region resilience or broader database-engine support is required.
