LambdaSharp is a command-line tool and framework for building serverless .NET applications on AWS. Teams define modules and functions in YAML and C#, then use CLI commands to compile projects, package and upload artifacts, generate CloudFormation templates, and create or update stacks. Its scope suits small and mid-market teams working with AWS Lambda modules who want an infrastructure-aware development workflow; it is less suitable for teams seeking a cloud-neutral framework or Kubernetes deployment.

The workflow connects application packaging to AWS infrastructure: LambdaSharp compiles C# projects, uploads deployment packages to S3, and deploys through CloudFormation. Its integrations also include API Gateway, CloudWatch, and X-Ray. Deployment tiers support testing, staging, and production workflows, while deterministic builds can skip unchanged deployments. Cross-module references and CloudWatch log aggregation add useful structure for applications split across modules. The tradeoff is a close fit to AWS services rather than a broad, multi-cloud ecosystem.

LambdaSharp is free and open source, so its published offering does not require choosing among paid tiers. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, but that cross-platform CLI availability does not change its AWS deployment target or its .NET focus. Teams that value YAML-defined modules, C# compilation, and CloudFormation deployment in one workflow should consider it. Teams needing Kubernetes support or deployment beyond AWS should look for a framework whose stated targets match those needs.

LambdaSharp pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Defines functions and resources in declarative YAML modules
    • Builds and deploys through CloudFormation, with packages uploaded to S3
    • Deployment tiers and deterministic builds support staged releases
  • Where it doesn't
    • Deployment targets are limited to AWS
    • The framework centers on serverless .NET and C# workflows
    • Kubernetes support is not part of its deployment model
