Our verdict on LACT
LACT is an open-source Linux application for configuring and monitoring AMD, Nvidia, and Intel GPUs. It suits Linux users who need more than basic clock controls, particularly those managing headless systems or integrating GPU settings into scripts and services. The application can run with a graphical interface or as a standalone service, covering GPU information reporting, monitoring, power and thermal controls, clock configuration, undervolting, fan curves, and tuning profiles.
Its strongest differentiator is the combination of desktop controls and automation interfaces. Historical charts track power, thermals, and frequency, while monitoring data can be exported to CSV. The command-line interface supports terminal-based workflows, and the daemon exposes a JSON API over a Unix socket or TCP. Automatic tuning-profile activation adds a way to apply saved configurations as part of a broader operating routine. Multi-vendor support also makes LACT relevant for systems that do not rely on a single GPU manufacturer, although available controls vary by hardware and driver.
LACT is distributed as open-source software under the MIT License. Its practical fit depends on the GPU vendor: Intel support includes hardware-specific limits, including no overclocking and no driver support for fan control. Users who need Linux-native configuration, monitoring, and programmable access should consider LACT, especially for headless or automated environments. Users seeking a cross-platform application, unrestricted Intel tuning, or Intel fan-control support should choose a tool aligned with those requirements instead.
