Kudu review
A broad free optimizer with optional cloud management for managed devices.

Kudu is a free, open-source system maintenance suite for individuals and IT teams. Its desktop application runs offline on Windows, macOS, and Linux and combines junk-file and cache cleanup, startup management, driver updates, software updates, malware scanning, privacy controls, performance monitoring, disk analysis, debloating, and scheduled maintenance. It is suited to cross-platform users who want a wide set of maintenance tools in one application, as well as teams that may later need centralized device management through Kudu Cloud.
The desktop application is free. Kudu Cloud adds paid management plans: Basic costs $5 per device per month and includes 30 days data retention, a real-time fleet dashboard, email alerts, patch management, security compliance and hardening, and API access. Pro costs $9 per device per month and adds 90 days data retention, threat monitoring, vulnerability monitoring, automated remediation, scheduled reports, and audit logs. The published plans show monthly pricing, with the paid tiers focused on fleet operations rather than unlocking the core desktop maintenance suite.
Kudu’s breadth is its clearest distinction. It supports scheduled scans and maintenance, Windows Package Manager and Windows Update integrations, YARA-based malware scanning with heuristics, performance and disk-health monitoring, and Windows System Restore point creation before cleaning. The optional cloud service adds browser-based fleet management, remote commands, monitoring, compliance features, and automated remediation. However, several notable tools—including registry cleaning, Windows debloating, service management, and restore-point workflows—are Windows-focused. Choose Kudu for broad, cross-platform maintenance with an open-source desktop option; choose an alternative if you need a narrowly focused optimizer or want all management capabilities included without a cloud subscription.
