KubeFleet review
An open-source control plane for policy-driven Kubernetes cluster placement and updates.

KubeFleet is an open-source Kubernetes multi-cluster management solution for platform and operations teams. Its hub-and-spoke control plane manages member clusters and places Kubernetes resources across them. Scheduling policies can use cluster affinity, topology, and resource properties, while status observation supports ongoing visibility across the fleet. KubeFleet can manage clusters hosted on public clouds, on-premises infrastructure, edge environments, or local development setups. The product is distributed as a CNCF sandbox project and is deployed by users into their own Kubernetes environments.
KubeFleet’s open-source model is central to its purchasing profile. The product is self-hosted rather than presented as a managed service, so teams deploy it in their own Kubernetes environments. Its capabilities cover cluster joining, membership management, resource placement, staged updates, drift detection, and resource overrides. This makes it a fit for organizations that want to manage infrastructure and operational ownership directly, with an API available alongside its self-hosted platform model.
The strongest use case is centralized placement and governance across multiple Kubernetes clusters. Policy-based scheduling can account for affinity, topology, and resource properties, while administrative policy enforcement provides a way to apply rules across member clusters. Progressive rollouts and drift detection extend the product beyond basic cluster registration. KubeFleet is less suited to teams seeking a broad container platform spanning technologies outside Kubernetes, or a commercial plan structure with packaged service tiers. Choose it when self-hosted, policy-driven multi-cluster control is the priority; consider an alternative when managed delivery or a wider platform scope matters more.
