Konveyor is an open-source toolkit for developers, architects, and platform teams modernizing traditional applications for Kubernetes and other cloud-native platforms. Its web-based hub supports application inventory, classification, interdependency tracking, questionnaire-based assessment, and migration planning, while CLI tools handle static analysis and Kubernetes asset generation. The product is suited to teams that need structured discovery and modernization planning rather than a conventional paid SaaS migration service.

Its strongest area is the breadth of planning and analysis in one open-source ecosystem. Teams can combine source-code and binary analysis with migration risk and effort reporting, replatforming support, workflow management, and migration-wave planning. Repository integrations include Git, Subversion, and Maven, while the ecosystem also includes Windup. Konveyor AI adds code-fix suggestions through OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Google Gemini, Amazon Bedrock, or Ollama. This makes the toolkit a fit for organizations that want to inspect application estates and prioritize modernization work before moving workloads.

Deployment and scope require closer consideration. Konveyor is self-hosted through Kubernetes operators, so it fits teams that already manage Kubernetes-based platforms and can own the operational work around the toolkit. Its database migration capability sits under the ecosystem's DiVA-DOA project, which is still in development and is not integrated into the main toolkit. Konveyor also does not verify continuous replication, making it less suitable when migration execution depends on validated replication workflows. Choose it for open-source assessment, dependency mapping, analysis, and Kubernetes-focused planning; consider another option when integrated database migration or replication verification is central.

Konveyor pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Tracks application inventory, dependencies, risks, and migration waves
    • Analyzes source code and binaries for modernization planning
    • Generates Kubernetes assets and offers AI-assisted code-fix suggestions
  • Where it doesn't
    • Self-hosted deployment through Kubernetes operators requires platform ownership
    • Database migration is still in development and not integrated into the main toolkit
    • Does not verify continuous replication for migration execution
