Our verdict on Kollaborate

Kollaborate is a cloud and self-hosted collaboration platform for video professionals, post-production teams, freelancers, and organizations. It combines browser-based media playback with timecode-stamped comments, drawing annotations, approval chains, version management, task tracking, permissions, and workflow automation. Its focus is the review and revision process around video and other files, including feedback that can be exported to creative applications.

The cloud pricing is structured around storage and collaboration needs. Basic costs $7 per month or $60 per year and includes 30 GB of storage, unlimited projects, unlimited bandwidth, and no team members. Freelance costs $25 per month or $180 per year with 250 GB of storage, while Freelance Plus costs $40 per month or $300 per year with 500 GB; both retain unlimited projects, unlimited bandwidth, and no team members. Small Business costs $25 per month or $180 per year, adding 60 GB of storage, five team members, unlimited projects, and custom branding. There is no free plan, and the separately priced Kollaborate Server option is for in-house deployment using customer servers and storage.

Kollaborate’s strongest fit is for editors and post-production teams that need more than basic commenting. Version stacks and revision tracking help organize iterations, while side-by-side comparison with synchronized playheads supports detailed review. Approval chains, custom reviewer roles, departments, project privacy controls, password-protected links, and automated file and upload workflows extend the product into structured production operations. Integrations include Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro X, Final Cut Pro 7, Cut Notes, and Pro Tools, with captions and automatic transcription also available. Choose Kollaborate for low-cost workflow depth and editing-application integration; choose an alternative if a free plan or included team members on entry plans is essential.
