Our verdict on KoboToolbox
KoboToolbox is an open-source platform for creating forms, collecting survey data, managing projects, and analyzing responses. It is designed mainly for nonprofit, humanitarian, development, environmental, research, education, and public-sector organizations. Browser-based web forms and the KoboCollect Android app support offline workflows, while XLSForm and the visual Formbuilder give teams two ways to create surveys. Skip logic, response validation, GPS, media, multilingual forms, and translation support suit field programs with varied collection conditions.
Pricing is structured around usage and organization type. The Starter plan costs $25 per month for individuals getting started with data collection. The Community plan is free for eligible nonprofit, government, international, and educational users and includes 5,000 survey submissions per month, unlimited projects, and unlimited forms. Professional costs $199 per month and adds 25,000 submissions per month and unlimited file storage, projects, and forms. Teams costs $359 per month, includes 50,000 submissions per month, unlimited users and projects, and one team. Enterprise Solutions uses custom pricing for organization-wide services.
