KbdEdit is a Windows desktop application for creating and modifying custom keyboard layouts. It is aimed at solo users and small teams that need more control than basic character-to-key mapping, including multilingual layouts, specialized symbols, modifier combinations, dead characters, and ligatures. Its tools cover Unicode mappings, virtual and physical keys, live preview, keyboard sticker-map printing, and layout import and export.

The product is divided into four paid editions. Lite provides basic character-to-key mapping and high-level editing. Personal adds advanced layout editing for personal use on one computer. Premium is the fully functional edition and can create standalone layout installer packages for distributing custom layouts. Player is a read-only deployment edition for importing and deploying layouts. The pricing model uses one-time purchases shown in euros, and the product also offers a free demo executable rather than an unlimited free plan.

KbdEdit’s strongest fit is detailed keyboard-layout work rather than general input-device customization. Support for Microsoft KLC, KBE, and Apple Mac layout formats helps when adapting existing layouts, while additional modifiers support multilingual designs. The main boundary is scope: it is Windows-only and does not provide macros, mouse controls, or profiles. Choose KbdEdit when keyboard mapping depth, layout portability, previewing, or installer generation matters; choose an alternative if you need a combined keyboard-and-mouse utility or profile-based device management.
