KakaoCloud Container Registry is a managed, cloud-hosted repository for storing and deploying Docker container images. It is intended for teams running containerized applications through development, testing, staging, and production, particularly when KakaoCloud Kubernetes Engine and KakaoCloud IAM are part of the environment. Private and public repositories, Docker CLI push and pull workflows, image and tag history, and tag overwrite protection cover core registry operations. The service is available through the web and API.
Pricing is usage-based rather than organized around conventional subscription tiers. Registry storage is billed in separate bands for up to 1 GiB and over 1 GiB, while outbound traffic is divided into up to 30 GiB, over 30 GiB to 10 TiB, over 10 TiB to 20 TiB, and over 20 TiB. Charges are listed in Korean won and exclude VAT. There is no free plan, so buyers should estimate storage and traffic patterns before choosing the service. The pricing structure fits workloads that can track consumption, but it is less straightforward than a fixed subscription.
Its strongest functional area is the connection between registry management and deployment workflows. Trivy provides automatic and manual vulnerability scanning, while retention policies and garbage collection help manage stored artifacts. Helm chart storage and deployment through OCI commands extend the registry beyond Docker images, and integrations with KakaoCloud Kubernetes Engine, KakaoCloud Alert Center, Docker, and Helm support a KakaoCloud-centered toolchain. Teams needing a registry with scanning, IAM, OCI artifacts, and lifecycle controls should consider it; teams seeking a free tier or replication capabilities should choose an alternative.
