Juniper Address Pool Manager review
A focused IPv4 pool manager for Juniper BNG operations, not broad enterprise IPAM.

Juniper Address Pool Manager is a container-based application for network operators and administrators managing centralized IPv4 address pools for broadband subscriber infrastructure. It is designed for Juniper BNG and BNG CUPS deployments, where address pools need to be allocated, subdivided, reclaimed, and redistributed as demand changes. The product includes address, entity, provisioning, and management components, with CLI-based configuration and monitoring for operational control.
Its strongest capability is focused pool automation. APM can provision prefixes automatically when BNG address pools approach configured thresholds, reclaim underused prefixes, and redistribute them. VLSM-based subdivision supports splitting prefixes into subnetworks, while threshold and alarm-driven allocation helps operators respond to pool conditions. Communication with BNGs uses the gRPC-based APMi protocol, and integrations include Juniper BNG and Juniper BNG CUPS Controller. This makes the product a practical fit for broadband environments built around Juniper’s BNG ecosystem rather than a general-purpose IP address management program.
Deployment is Kubernetes-based and supports multiple geographies, with Linux, API, and self-hosted availability. That model suits operators already running containerized network services and needing centralized control across distributed infrastructure. The tradeoff is scope: APM currently manages IPv4 prefixes, while IPv6 partitions are sourced from BNG CUPS local reserve. Its documented focus also excludes broader DNS, DHCP, and audit-history functionality. Choose it when automated IPv4 pool operations and Juniper BNG integration are the priority; choose a broader IPAM platform when IPv6, DNS, DHCP, or audit workflows are central requirements.
Juniper Address Pool Manager pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Automates IPv4 prefix provisioning, reclamation, and redistribution
- Uses VLSM subdivision and threshold-based allocation alarms
- Supports Kubernetes deployment and gRPC communication with BNGs
- Where it doesn't
- Manages IPv4 prefixes without built-in IPv6 support
- Does not provide general DNS or DHCP management
- Audit-history functionality is not part of the documented scope
