JSPM review
A focused open-source toolkit for import-map and CDN-based web projects.

JSPM is an open-source JavaScript package-management toolkit built around browser import maps. It is aimed at web developers working with native ES modules, browser standards, CDN-based delivery, or local-first workflows. The CLI installs and resolves dependencies, generates import maps, serves applications locally, builds packages with RollupJS, and supports publishing to JSPM providers. JSPM also provides a hosted generator, package download APIs, and the jspm.io CDN for optimized npm packages.
Its strongest fit is a workflow that treats import maps as a central dependency mechanism. Import-map installation and resolution, version locking through import maps, multiple CDN and local package providers, and offline, online, and no-cache fetch modes give teams control over how browser dependencies are selected and delivered. The local development server adds hot reload and TypeScript type stripping, while zero-configuration RollupJS builds cover package creation without requiring a separate build setup. Integration points include Vite, Import Map Rails, Symfony AssetMapper, and Node.js.
JSPM is open source, so its model is distinct from package managers organized around paid tiers. The published capabilities include workspaces, lockfiles, peer-dependency handling, package publishing, offline caching, and global installation. Publishing is documented as experimental preview, and reliable package delivery is directed toward npm with JSPM's CDN. Teams seeking import-map resolution, CDN access, and browser-oriented package workflows should consider JSPM; projects that need a more general-purpose package-management approach may find its specialized web focus less suitable.
