JetStream DR is a hybrid disaster recovery and continuous data protection product for teams running VMware environments. It continuously replicates virtual-machine data to cloud object storage or a recovery VMware environment, supporting near-zero RPO and rapid recovery. Its protection model uses VMware vSphere IO Filters rather than in-guest agents, and administration is available through vCenter, the command line, and APIs. The product is aimed at organizations that need offsite replication, cloud recovery, or on-premises-to-cloud and cloud-to-cloud recovery for VMware workloads.

Pricing is usage-based through Azure Marketplace and depends on active licenses or protected VMs. The published purchasing model is contact-sales rather than a fixed tier structure, so it is better suited to teams that can size protection requirements around their VMware estate. The product’s main capability is continuous replication, with point-in-time recovery supporting ransomware recovery scenarios. On-demand VM rehydration and cloud recovery add flexibility when teams need to recover selected workloads rather than activate every protected machine at once.

JetStream DR fits a VMware-centered ecosystem: supported environments include VMware vSphere 7 and 8, Azure VMware Solution, Azure Blob Storage, Azure NetApp Files, and S3-compatible object storage. Automated failover and failback runbooks help formalize recovery operations, while vCenter, CLI, and API management support different administrative workflows. Its scope is deliberately narrower than broader backup-and-disaster-recovery suites, particularly for organizations protecting diverse workloads beyond VMware. Choose JetStream DR when VMware replication, cloud-object-storage targets, and recovery into VMware-compatible environments are the priority; consider a broader suite when workload coverage outside VMware is central.

    • Supports Azure Blob Storage, S3-compatible stores, and Azure VMware Solution
  • Where it doesn't
    • Focused on VMware vSphere 7 and 8 rather than broader workload coverage
    • Usage-based pricing depends on licenses or protected VMs
    • Recovery environments center on VMware-compatible platforms and Azure
