JetBrains dotTrace is a desktop performance profiler for applications built with .NET Framework, .NET, .NET Core, Mono, and Unity’s Mono. It is aimed at developers who need more than basic CPU snapshots, with tools for execution time, CPU activity, memory allocations, garbage collection, threading, file I/O, asynchronous code, HTTP requests, and SQL queries. Workflows include standalone use, command-line profiling, Visual Studio integration, and JetBrains Rider integration across Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Its profiling depth is the main reason to choose it. Sampling, tracing, line-by-line, and timeline modes support different investigation styles, while CPU, managed and native memory, and thread analysis cover several common sources of performance problems. dotTrace can profile running processes as well as desktop, web, service, test, native, and remote applications. A profiling SDK adds programmatic session control, and command-line and continuous-integration support extends profiling beyond an individual developer’s workstation. TeamCity integration is also available.

The packaging is the central trade-off. dotTrace is sold only as part of dotUltimate or the All Products Pack rather than as a standalone product. dotUltimate includes dotTrace alongside dotMemory, dotCover, ReSharper, ReSharper C++, Rider, and JetBrains AI Pro. The All Products Pack combines dotTrace and dotMemory with multiple JetBrains IDEs, Air, EAP, and JetBrains AI credits. Teams already standardizing on JetBrains tools may find that breadth relevant; teams seeking only a focused profiler or a free profiling option should consider a different fit.
