JawsDB MySQL is a managed Database-as-a-Service provider for MySQL and MariaDB databases. It provisions cloud-hosted relational databases with connection credentials for applications, including Heroku applications. The service suits developers and teams that want managed database infrastructure through a web dashboard rather than operating database servers directly. Its plan range covers shared and single-tenant deployments, with storage, connection, and rollback allowances varying by tier.
Pricing starts with Kitefin at $0 per month as a shared plan, followed by Leopard at $10 per month and Blacktip at $20 per month, also shared plans. Whitetip costs $35 per month, Thresher $110 per month, Tiger $200 per month, and Hammerhead $440 per month; these are single-tenant plans. The free Kitefin plan includes 5 MB of storage. According to the published plan structure, the paid tiers provide a path from shared hosting to dedicated database environments, while single-tenant plans add root credentials. Plan changes are available through the service, and the published pricing is shown monthly.
JawsDB MySQL’s strongest feature set centers on database administration. One-click provisioning creates managed cloud databases, while nightly or daily automated snapshots support rollback to an earlier database state. Databites lets users create, run, save, and share SQL queries, and server metrics are available for eligible single-tenant plans. Failover and cross-region data replication are available on supported plans, making the higher tiers more suitable for applications with stronger availability requirements. The trade-off is a relatively focused platform: it supports MySQL and MariaDB, offers Heroku integration, and runs through the web, but scaling is manual. Choose it for a small MySQL application that benefits from a free starting point or a clear move to single-tenant hosting; consider another service if automatic scaling or broader platform coverage is central.
