Inspectr is a local HTTP proxy and traffic-inspection tool for developers working with APIs, webhooks, and MCP servers. It forwards requests to a configured backend or captures them without forwarding, then presents request and response details in a browser UI or terminal. Its open-source core is suited to local development, while the tunnel option can expose a local service for access beyond the machine.

Traffic inspection is the central strength: developers can filter and replay captured requests, inspect headers, query parameters, bodies, and backend responses, and override response status, delay, content type, or example payloads. OpenAPI specifications can be used to mock backend responses, and the tool can inspect MCP server calls and webhook events. It supports macOS, Linux, and Windows, with cloud and self-hosted deployment options. The published plan highlights include unlimited API requests and webhooks, preferred URLs for public exposure, and SSL/TLS encryption on the Open Source plan; that encryption should not be confused with HTTPS interception, which Inspectr does not provide.

The Open Source plan is free. According to the vendor's pricing details, Pro costs $5 per month and adds custom domains, reserved subdomains, and priority email support. Enterprise adds advanced security and compliance, self-hosted deployment, and dedicated support. This makes Inspectr a fit for developers who want local HTTP traffic inspection, replay, and API mocking, including teams that need configurable tunnels. Developers whose work depends on decrypting and inspecting HTTPS traffic or debugging mobile apps should look for a tool with those capabilities instead.

Inspectr pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Inspect and replay requests, headers, query parameters, bodies, and responses
    • Mock APIs from OpenAPI specs and override response details
    • Expose local services through a configurable public tunnel
  • Where it doesn't
    • Does not provide HTTPS interception for encrypted traffic debugging
    • Custom domains and reserved subdomains require the Pro plan
    • Mobile app debugging is not supported
