Infoblox DNS Traffic Control (DTC) is a DNS-based global server load balancing product integrated with Infoblox DDI. It is aimed at mid-market and enterprise teams directing clients to application servers across on-premises, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments. Use cases include customer-facing and internal business-critical applications, as well as disaster recovery. Its fit is strongest for organizations already working with Infoblox DDI and needing control over how DNS traffic responds to location and service availability.

DTC combines several routing inputs and methods rather than relying on geography alone. Administrators can select traffic based on client and server location, health, and availability, with topology management using IP subnet, GeoIP, and extensible-attribute data. Load-balancing options include round robin, weighted round robin, topology, global availability, and round-trip delay. Configurable health checks cover HTTP/S, SNMP, TCP, SIP, PDP, and ICMP, supporting automated failover when a server's health or availability changes. A GUI visualizer manages load-balanced domain names, pools, and servers; REST API automation, CSV import and export, and integrated reports, analytics, dashboards, and alerts support ongoing administration.

The deployment options are self-hosted and cloud, and the product supports DNS service records and multi-tier CNAME configurations. Pricing is contact-sales, and DTC is described as a licensed product integrated with Infoblox appliances, so it is not a straightforward fit for teams seeking a standalone, self-serve GeoDNS service. Buyers should weigh the value of its topology controls and monitoring against the operational and ecosystem commitment. Choose DTC when Infoblox DDI is already part of the environment and routing policy needs to account for more than location; consider a simpler alternative if those controls or the DDI integration are unnecessary.

    • Combines topology rules, REST API automation, and reporting
  • Where it doesn't
    • Requires sales contact for pricing
